  9. Hey all, The way i see it is the water leaving a reactor is saturated wrt calcium and carbonate (amongst others) passing that water through a sealed chamber with more calcium carbonatet does not look like a long term solution but may appear to work initially due to CO2 adsorption. In the long term it will be about as effective as chocolate teapot! What i have personally found works best is simply exposing the effluent of a reactor to the sir for as long as possible before it enters the aquarium Sith asmuch surfacearea as possible. This will allow some CO2 to offgass (it is a slow little molecule), the pH of the effluent will rise and become super saturated wrt calcium and carbonate. That is why some systems like passing the effluent over calcium works most of the time (although inneffective reactors running too fast can mean the effluent is not saturated) For those of us with effective reactors just air that effluent!
  10. Hey Per, I'll write English so as to not to confuse you, i hope that is ok! I'm not sure myself how Seachem salt can be marketed for aquarium use. It us by far the worst salt i have ever seen. Hydrochemically such high Ca and Alk values seem nearly impossible, and actually they are! You see seachem in all there wisdom have used Borate to give apparent carbonate alkalkality. This enables the mix to hold high levels of calcium but it is not balanced with carbonate alkalinity. The result is that whilst our test kits read å good KH the reality is that the is useless to corals or calcerous growth who are only interested in the Ca CO3 combo! The worst bit it that over time the little CO3 that remains binds to the excessive calcium leaving an environment that appears ok wrt Ca and KH but is devoid of enough CO3 to sustain calcerous life. I'd rather add some acropora eating flatworms to my aquarium than use Seachem 'Reef' salt! Hope that helps!
